When is the last time you gave your skin a drink?

Peptides: TRICK your skin into acting younger? That's a TREAT! (pssst...It's also in our Ultimate Bronzer!)

THE SCIENCE: What are Peptides, and why are they the hottest ingredient in skincare?

I'll be honest, when I began trying to understand what makes our lotions work so incredibly well and why, the science behind something so easy to use I found very complex. And another omission: I am heading into my 40s regretting the fact that I didn't do this research and use proper skincare before! So now I always turn to studies to understand the science of skincare, and translate it to you as best I can. And when it comes to peptides, specifically, I hit the studies and saw this repeatedly: "Science has proven that Peptides can help manage wrinkles in your skin and reverse the signs of aging." This statement seems like we found the fountain of youth, right? Well, this time it actually seems so. And if you've done any research about our ULTIMATE BRONZER, you've seen that our amazing bronzing lotions have them as well. So how do peptides in skin care products make your skin look younger?

Well, it turns out that a lot of research being done now has to do with peptides related to active surface skin cell turnover and cell receptors - and how it helps the skin fight the signs of aging. So as this pertains to SKIN UP, we are working on the targeted top layer to quench your skin with active ingredients that help optimize your skin from the outside with water-based lotions to hydrate, soothe and balance your skin - and offer you the opportunity to introduce them to your skin in an entirely new way: misted with a sun-kissed glow!

Peptides for Skin Care: Trick to Treat? A background...

Human skin is comprised mostly of collagen. Collagen is a protein comprised of long segments of amino acids arranged like a chain.

  • Collagen provides a foundation and thickness for skin
  • Women under 30 have ample collagen, which results in smooth, tight skin
  • The rest of us have less collagen -  skin tends to be thinner, revealing more wrinkles

When collagen breaks down, short segments of amino acids are formed. These are the tiny proteins and active molecules known as peptides, and are proven very beneficial in skincare to fight the signs of aging.

The specific peptides found in SKIN UP's Ultimate Bronzer are Hexapeptide-48 (also known as Rubixyl, so you can check your skincare labels). According to research done by Induchem of Switzerland, this peptide is the very first active ingredient from a new anti-aging research area, the control of skin cells receptors to reverse the aging processes. This research shows that it:

• Normalizes skin barrier
• Restructures mature skins
• Smoothes skin surface
• Refills deep wrinkles.

You can actually trick your skin into acting like younger skin? How?

When collagen is depleted by age and environmental factors, including free-radicals and sunlight, it is not fully replaced. As a result, smooth, young skin slowly becomes thinner and wrinkled over time. As collagen deteriorates, it produces certain peptides. Research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)  shows that these peptides send a "message" to your skin that it has lost collagen and needs to generate more. When skin care peptides are applied topically, your skin "thinks" that it's a collagen break down product and that your body needs to manufacture new collagen. So you can successfully minimize wrinkles and give your skin a more youthful appearance with the application of peptides that trigger the production of collagen. This is why it is important to use skincare that includes good peptide ingredient.

With SKIN UP's Ultimate Bronzer, you mist these topically, giving skin that burst of hyaluronic acid, peptides and antioxidants to the targeted surface layers of your skin, distributing hydrating and age fighting ingredients in a luxurious mist. With repeated short bursts throughout the day, you are infusing your skin with ingredients that help stimulate your skin on the top layer and helps support your skin's natural rejuvination process. With our Ultimate Bronzer, you not only get these active ingredients, but you get a light sun-kissed glow for up to 4 days - from a light evening of your skintone to a deep radiant tan during any season.

Now that you know what peptides are, and how they work, be sure to add them to your skincare regime! As always - keep in contact or ask any questions by emailing me at angie@skinupusa.com.
